It’s a public address for your website. For example, my “web address”, or domain, is www.FaithfulMinistryDesigns.com
Does a church need a domain?
Yes, if you want to build a website you must have a domain; like if you want to build a house you must first have a street address. Note that you may have a web/street address without having a website/house built on it.
The great news is that you get to choose your own web address (I sure wish I had that option when my house was off of “Old Hog Mountain Road” ;-)
When should I get a domain?
The sooner you acquire a domain the more likely one you like will be available. Try to secure a domain as soon as you are able.
How do I acquire a domain?
You must purchase a domain from a “domain registrar”. There are plenty to choose from, but I usually recommend GoDaddy.com, the world's largest registrar, because of their low prices and good customer service.
How do I choose a domain?
1. Choose a domain related to your church/ministry – like your name, purpose or location (or a combination of these three)
2. Choose a short domain that is under 27 characters. This makes it more memorable and less likely to be misspelled by others.
Do I need a domain that’s “private”?
I recommend it, though it’s not necessary. All domains are indexed in a type of “phonebook” and having a private domain gets your personal, identifiable information out of it.
